Welcome to ICAR Research Complex for Goa

	Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) established the ICAR Research Complex for Goa in April, 1976. After a short spell under the ICAR Research Complex for North East Region, Shillong, the administrative control of the Goa research complex was vested with the Central Plantation Crop Research Institute, Kasaragod

The Complex started functioning in the present place namely Ela, Old Goa, since 1982. To intensify the transfer of farm technology and to impart grass root level vocational training to the farmers and unemployed youth, a Krishi Vigyan Kendra was established in this complex during the year 1983. Government of Goa had handed over to this complex 19.73 ha of land from the state department of Agriculture in 1984 for establishing buildings and experimental plots. Additionally, for expansion of the research, field demonstrations and training activities of the ICAR Research Complex, an area of 33.64 ha. was handed over to the complex by the Government of Goa during the year 1987. Subsequently, the ICAR upgraded the Research complex to a full-fledged institute from April, 1989.
Mandate of the institute
1. To conduct strategic and applied research on potential agricultural and horticultural crops, livestock and fisheries for improving productivity and post harvest management 2. To disseminate improved technology developed 3. To act as centre for training in updated technologies 4. To collaborate with national and international institutes/agencies in developing and transferring new technologies 5. To generate nucleus planting materials 6. To provide consultancy services and 7. To act as repository of information on western ghat agricultural system
